Programs

The mission of the Western Wake Tennis Association is to grow the game and spirit of tennis in our area. Player growth comes in both numbers and skills. Player Development programs are intended to complement efforts by both private clubs and town parks and recreation departments. Some programs are perennial but some change from year to year to diversify outreach.

PERENNIAL PROGRAMS

  • Scholarship Program: Scholarships are offered every spring to encourage young players' development.

2008 PROGRAMS

2009 PROGRAMS

  • QuickStart Introduction: Equipment to clubs and for this new USTA endorsed method of teaching tennis to young children.
    • Public park programs in six local towns supporting QuickStart tennis programs in public parks in all
    • Pilot program at Kraft Family YMCA supporting QuickStart tennis play in track-out and after-school programs.
    • Pilot programs at elementary schools supporting QuickStart tennis as a part of normal PE classes
    • Provided QuickStart equipment to the only two clubs lacking it; now all area clubs offer QuickStart tennis programs.

2010 PROGRAMS

  • Elementary School Tennis: PE & After School
The goal is to spur the growth of the 10&Under Junior Team Tennis league
In 2010, WWTA will build on a pilot program for QuickStart tennis in public elementary school PE classes. This initiative will consist of three elements:
    • PE Tennis: Every school will be invited to join the program. WWTA will provide equipment and training; the school will commit to presenting QuickStart tennis in normal PE classes, training the PE teachers, and reporting results.
    • After-School Tennis: WWTA will team with the providers of after-school programs to incorporate QuickStart tennis in after-school activities. Parents will be recruited to build teams for intra-mural play leading to inter-mural play.
    • QuickStart Festivals: WWTA will team with public parks and/or clubs to host one-day QuickStart play events designed for individuals and for school team participation.
