Player Development

WWTA's Player Development Mission:

Developing new players is the second major thrust and WWTA approaches this objective with a combination of outreach programs and scholarships. The outreach programs go to all areas of western Wake County and seek to reach those not served by country clubs and tennis clubs. The scholarships encourage continued development and, in the case of academic ones, rewards commitment to tennis and community service

WWTA achieves this through the following:

  • Youth Beginner Tennis Programs: Make-A-Racquet and Kids for Kids
  • Support tennis instruction: e.g., 2009 QuickStart equipment program
  • Support senior tennis, adaptive play and wheelchair tennis
  • Invest in Youth with Scholarships and Tennis Camps

In 2008, Make-A-Racquet and Kids for Kids programs introduced nearly 200 children to tennis; providing them with the equipment and skills to continue the game.
