Tennis Fundraiser for Asthma Research

Tennis coach Jake Lester will attempt to break the world record for “Longest Tennis Coaching Marathon” at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. (2727 Louis Stephens Drive) beginning at 7:00 a.m. on March 12, 2010. The current world record stands at 60 consecutive half-hour lessons.

Coach Jake’s brother-in-law, Jody Brooks, died unexpectedly from an asthma attack in October 2008. Jody would have turned 36 on March 13, 2010. In his honor, Coach Jake will attempt to teach for 36 consecutive hours (72 consecutive half-hour lessons) to raise awareness about asthma and asthma-related diseases, while raising funds for asthma research.

There are several ways supporters can help Coach Jake reach his goal:

  • Take a lesson: a half-hour lesson is a minimum $25.00 donation;
  • Offer a pledge for hours taught: pledge a specific dollar amount per hour taught during record attempt (i.e. $5/Hour x 36 hours = $180 donation);
  • Donate directly to the American Asthma Foundation (AAF) in the name of Jody Brooks;
  • Buy Organic Bakies cookies during the event: all proceeds from these sales will be donated to the AAF;
  • Cheer on Coach Jake during the early-morning hours of the event.

All funds raised will be donated to the AAF in the name of Jody Brooks in support of research into the development of improved treatments, detection and prevention, and finding a cure for asthma and asthma-related illnesses.
